British Schools Score Championships |

A big thank you to everyone for all your efforts at the British Schools Score Championships at Moors Valley yesterday. I could not have done it without all of you to help out and it was certainly a day to be remembered and be proud of – not least for the fantastic sunshine we had for the prize giving after lunch.
We had over 200 youngsters taking part (the future of British Orienteering) and there were some excellent performances. We had some notable top place results from juniors of all four local clubs and the highlight has to be Fordingbridge Junior School winning two of the younger age groups.

Congratulations to club juniors Grace French (1st, G6), Pippa Skinsley (2nd, G7), Harry Bratcher Howard (2nd, B7) on their individual medals, together with Grace Meekings and Isobel Bakker from Fordingbridge Junior Schools who won G5 as a pair. Fordingbridge (coached by Debs Mays) also won the Girls Primary and the Boys Primary team classes, a fantastic result from such an inexperienced team.
Many thanks to all the members of WIM (and also those from WSX,SARUM & SOC) who helped as officials today and who made the event the success it was.

The prizes were presented by Gillian Cross, a member of Wimborne Orienteers, and BSOA representatives. Gillian Cross has written over sixty books for children. She is best known for her Demon Headmaster books, which were the basis of a very successful BBC television series. Her books have been translated into many languages and won prestigious prizes, including the Carnegie Medal for the best children’s book of the year (for Wolf), the Smarties Prize and the Whitbread Children’s Novel Award (for The Great Elephant Chase) and several prizes, including the Little Rebels Award, for After Tomorrow, her story about refugees.
